What’s on our Radar – Week of April 7th, 2025

April 6, 2025 in General

If you had Spring Break last week, we hope you enjoyed it. This week, we are right back in the thick of it! We have a SUPER BIG Call-to-Action on the Clark County Comp Plan Update we are asking of you for the Tuesday, April 8th 10am Clark County Council meeting, so be sure to read up on that in the section on this week.

  • This week:
    • 🚨 CALL-TO-ACTION on the Clark County Comp Plan Update by THIS TUESDAY, April 8th at 10am:
You may recall that the Council recently gave direction to amend the scope of work for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the 2025 Comp Plan Update regarding the hasty resource lands study and the site specific requests (SSRs) for mining. If you need a refresher, you can review our social media post on this topic here:

This is potentially a HUGE WIN for Clark County’s water, air, climate, resiliency, quality of life, and more—IF the Council ultimately passes an amended resolution. This Tuesday, April 8th at 10am is when they will vote!

Private industry interests have been working around the clock to stop this resolution from passing, which is why FOCC and others must generate a BIG showing of support for the County to stand strong and do the right thing! Please consider preparing written public comments or showing up to testify, as we need ALL HANDS ON DECK. The details on how to engage are on the County’s agenda page here (under Separate Business Item #3 for the Tuesday meeting):

Read the staff report and amended resolution here:

    •  On Wednesday, April 9th, there will be a Work Session on Forest Management a little after 9am, and a Work Session from the Developmental and Engineering Advisory Board (DEAB) at 1pm regarding their 2025 Work Plan. At Council Time, the Dabbler legacy forest timber sale is listed under Policy Updates, but we don’t know the context. For the latest on Dabbler, refer to our update from last week’s Radar linked above.
    • Chelatchie Bluff SMO: On the Wednesday before last, the Clark County Council gave unanimous direction to move forward with repealing the Chelatchie Bluff surface mining overlay (SMO) over environmentally sensitive forest land in response to FOCC’s win at the Washington Court of Appeals. At some point a resolution to repeal the ordinance will come back before Council. This is a BIG DEAL! If you care about this issue, please consider preparing to submit written public comments or testify to support the Council in doing the right thing when the resolution to repeal comes before them!

  • Heads up on other advisory board and commission meetings:

  • Other happenings:

    • For Clark County Farmers: FOCC is asking farmers to complete our 2025 Clark County Farm Survey by Saturday, April 12th, 2025. This year, we are happy to be able to offer a $20 Wilco gift card as an incentive for each farm that completes the survey (each farm is eligible for 1 gift card).
    • Food Waste Prevention Week: Food Waste Prevention Week is here! April 7th-13th. Stay engaged on social media, as we’ll be sharing information related to this!

See you next week!
