THURSDAY, AUGUST 20TH
Planning Commission Comp Plan Update hearing at 6:30pm: Meeting information
The Planning Commission will take public testimony and make a recommendation to the Clark County Council on the Comp Plan Update. We need YOU to help us advocate for a sustainable future balancing growth, the preservation of prime agricultural land, and meaningful climate action in Clark County by taking Friends of Clark County’s Call to Action on the August 20th Planning Commission hearing.

Clark County Council Work Sessions
Comp Plan Transportation Impact Fees (TIF)
- According to MRSC, “Impact fees are one-time charges…against a new development project to help pay for new or expanded public capital facilities that will directly address the increased demand for services created by that development.”
- These fees are paid by the developer.
- TIFs attempt to offset the impact of new development on transportation capital costs so taxpayers don’t have to pay for new development.
- 3 Councilors expressed concern about impact fees, indicating that they may be interested in lowering them.

Clark County Council Time
La Center Bottoms photo from Clark County government
Parks: The City of La Center requested a transfer of Clark County Legacy Lands property from the county to the city, including the La Center Bottoms and EFL Greenway. The Clark County Legacy Lands program protects natural space, air, water and wildlife habitat while providing recreational opportunities in nature. This request came after the county discovered that La Center built an unpermitted gravel parking lot on county Legacy Lands property. It is unknown whether the parking lot built by La Center is legal given that it was unpermitted. Staff and Council expressed concern that transferring this property would impact the comprehensive parks planning process that is underway, and Council decided they would first work with La Center to address the parking lot issue before considering the transfer request.

Our annual Dinner with Friends fundraising event will take place at a new, fabulous location at Cedars Public House in Brush Prairie, WA on September 13th from 4 to 7pm. The food will be delicious, the setting beautiful, and the company even better.
