- 🥳 After over 3 years and in response to Friends of Clark County’s recent win at the Washington Court of Appeals, the Clark County Council finally voted to repeal the Chelatchie Bluff surface mining overlay (SMO) ordinance last week. Check out the video reel we made of our pro bono lawyer, David McDonald’s heartfelt testimony here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1AWXGHrQuw/

- There wasn’t much on the agenda last week that was pressing or relevant to FOCC’s mission; however, you may want to review last week’s Radar above to find links for recordings of the advisory board meetings that took place (Parks, Railroad, Planning Commission, and ECHO). All Clark County Council recordings from last week can be found on the normal agenda page here: https://clark.wa.gov/councilors/clark-county-council-meetings
- This week:
- Tomorrow, Tuesday May 20th at 6pm is a regular Clark County Council meeting. Notable items on the agenda include:
- A public hearing regarding a proposed amendment to Title 40.210.010 (Forest, Agriculture and Agricultural-Wildlife Districts) at the request of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church to allow new cemeteries associated with an existing church in an AG-20 zoned area.
- A public hearing on the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program.
- There is an open public comment opportunity at this meeting, meaning the public can comment on whatever issue they desire!
- There is a request for approval of an Interagency Agreement between Clark County and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources to establish a forward operating base for helicopter operations at Camp Bonneville.
- There is a request for approval of an Interlocal Agreement between Clark County and C-TRAN for property acquisition, ownership, permitting, transit signal priority, fiber and operation of Bus Rapid Transit Stations and related facilities for the Highway 99 Bus Rapid Transit Project.
- Wednesday, May 21st at 1pm is Council Time, including:
-
- Sustainable Futures – Parks and Nature Funding Charter: While this agenda item is just discussion of staff’s proposed charter for a new task team, this is an important one to follow! In late March, a work session took place discussing the need to create a funding plan to meet the level of service parks standards (Clark County is currently in a steep deficit regarding adequate parks and open space, with the population projected to grow substantially) to fulfill the county’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Plan. The draft states that the team will consist of no more than 12 member representatives from the following groups: • Local governments • Other Park providers • Non-profit organizations • Youth sports organizations • Land conservation organizations • Interest groups • Community leaders. Now is a good time to start recruiting allies for this upcoming task team!
- Policy Updates, including a federal budget response letter regarding funding for federal housing programs that are under threat, Columbia River Mental Health Service resolutions, and Associate Development Organizations.
