What’s on our Radar – Week of July 28th, 2025
Tickets for Friends of Clark County’s annual fundraising dinner on September 14th are available now! Read about how important this fundraiser is—especially this year—on the front page of our website here: https://friendsofclarkcounty.org/
- Last week:
-
- WE WON on advocating to the council to get on the record regarding the Turnover Timber sale, BUT we learned that the DNR does not “prefer” that members of the public be allowed to attend the upcoming DNR-led site tours of our public trust lands with Clark County councilmembers. There will be another opportunity next Wednesday at 1pm Council Time for the public to comment on this. Special thanks to Tonya Enger, who is an ally leading on this issue and on Clark County forest conservation more broadly! - There were two work sessions, one on Code Update-2026 Environmental Public Health Fees and one on the Vancouver Lake Management Plan
- A Clark County Technical Housing Code Forum meeting from May 29th was finally posted:Clark County Technical Housing Code Forum Meeting, May 29, 2025
- This week:
- Wednesday, July 30th at 9am is a work session on the Comprehensive Plan Update Housing Code, followed by an annexation discussion with the City of Vancouver.
- Wednesday, July 30th at 1pm is Council Time. Under Old Business is item 4.3, the Turnover Timber Sale Letter. Supporters can use the public comment opportunity to voice support for the council getting on the record with the letter to the DNR regarding the Turnover timber sale, while also pushing for one of FOCC and allies’ final asks, which is for forest advocates to have a presence (at least by a couple of representatives of local organizations such as FOCC) at the DNR trust land tours so we can witness what the agency is telling our elected officials about their management of our public trust lands.
- Thursday, July 31st at 9am is the Public Health Advisory Council/Board of Health retreat with the Clark County Council. On the agenda is sharing learnings from recent ‘Public Health in Action’ presentations on access to prenatal care, benthic algal mats, the heat watch campaign, and school immunization rates.

- Commission/advisory board meetings this week:
-
- Thursday, July 31st will be a Planning Commission work session on the Land Use Element of the Comprehensive Plan Update AND discussion of public feedback on land use alternatives from the Comprehensive Plan Update workshop comment period. Meeting materials include a summary of the commentary, and it is clear that much of the community agrees with FOCC’s positions regarding land use and want our county to be good environmental stewards! Remember, public comment is not allowed at work sessions as no action is taken, but this will be very informative! Check out the materials and how to participate here:
