Reject Black Friday and #OptOutside on November 28th!

November 21, 2025 in General, Parks, Trails, & Open Spaces
Hey Friends,

This giving season, Friends of Clark County is changing the narrative and encouraging you to go back to the basics, to take part in building the community resiliency that we urgently need, and to give and receive with intention—backed by your values rather than pressure from corporate spending campaigns.

That’s why we are encouraging you to #optoutside on Friday, November 28th this year, a tradition that began when REI Co-Op chose to reject Black Friday consumerism by closing its doors and starting a campaign to go outside instead!

With that, we are proud to highlight our efforts, thanks to partnership and guidance from Legacy Forest Defense Coalition (LFDC), to nominate a large swath of biodiverse forest on Larch Mountain for the Natural Climate Solutions program, which would conserve this area that would otherwise eventually be logged by the WA Department of Natural Resources. The Clark County Council has written a letter of support to the DNR for this nomination, which is huge progress in making it a reality!
