03 Dec New! Protecting Farmland: an Introductory Review of Select Strategies.
This Just Out – Friends of Clark County publishes, Protecting Farmland: an Introductory Review of Select Strategies. This scholarly paper describes and provides an analysis of a few programs and policies that can help preserve and protect farmland in Clark County. Not intended to be an exhaustive list, rather Friends have honed in on a few strategies that have been successful in other areas and some that could be strengthened in Clark County.
Friends of Clark County hope is that Protecting Farmland: an Introductory Review of Select Strategies, can help inform the work of the county’s anticipated formation of an Agricultural Advisory Committee. Our goal is to help assure local food remains a vibrant part of our community.
This paper was drafted by Jude Wait, partially funded by a small grant from Friends of Clark County. The literature was reviewed, primarily in conjunction with Ph.D. dissertation research (Wait, J.A. 2018, in progress: Resilience of Food Farming in Rapidly Urbanizing Regions: a case study involving selected Clark County farms producing fruits and/or vegetables for direct markets).
