Heritage Farm Update

Heritage Farm Update

On June 22nd, the Council Time agenda led off with an update to the Council on Heritage Farm from the Parks department. Updates included a Letter to the council and a list of possible fee and other changes to increase revenue from existing uses. Those documents can be found at this link

Guests at the session included Christine Perry and Mike Gaffney from WSU Extension. Mike stated that they would be ‘keenly interested’ in participating in process and discussions of the future of Heritage Farm, and their ability to bring capacity to bear to assist. He provided examples of things that WSU might be able to bring, and as a next step will do an inventory, including a review of other county extension activities, of services and delivery that are or might be available. Examples included workforce development and skills training, up-skilling & re-skilling. Christine mentioned a Farm incubator proposal that could potentially be located at the Farm.
For the most part, activities are on hold due to Covid-19 until they are able to meet in person. Some background work on the entire farm, not just the 5 acre corner that was the topic of the consultant contract, will continue.
